Promote Economic, Social & environmental Sustainability in the Rubber Sector

Agricultural Economics Unit mainly involves in socio-economic studies in the rubber sector as well as various economic analyses on rubber industry. Also, Agricultural Economics Unit conduct several research in collaboration with Biometry Section and assist to other research Department in various kind of analyses. It aims to provide necessary guidance to make rubber farming and processing a profitable venture.

Sankalpa J.K.S. is currently working as a Research Officer/ Economist of the Agricultural Economics Unit. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Technology and Management from University of Peradeniya in 2009 with a Second Class Lower Division. Also, he has obtained his Masters degree in Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering at the same university in the year 2011. Mr. Sankalpa has completed his postgraduate research degree in Economics from University of Colombo in the year 2017. His current research area consist with Agricultural farming systems, production economics, socioeconomic studies in the rubber farming, and GIS applications in the agriculture sector.

Miss P G N Ishani, BSc Agric. (SL)

P.G.N.Ishani is currently working as a Research Officer/ Economist of the Agriculture Economics Unit. She obtained her BSc degree in Agricultural Technology and Management from University of Peradeniya in 2014 with a Second Class Upper Division. Majoring in Applied Economics and Business Management. She is following Msc in Agriculture Economics from Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. Her current research area consist of trade and policy analysis and applications are extended to analysis of various socio and economic analysis related to rubber industry.
