The latest Thermogravimetric analysis coupled to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR) has been installed for the first time in Sri Lanka at the Department of Polymer Chemistry of Technology Section of RRISL in Ratmalana premises. The instrument costs around 11 million rupees, and has the ability to cater the high-end polymer characterization services to both academia and industry. The advantage of this cutting-edge coupling technology enables us to identify the evolving gases during the thermal analysis by FTIR. Both instruments can be used independently to characterize polymers and additives. TG/FTIR instrument is equipped with the latest polymer and additive library, and evolved gas identification library. FTIR is among the most applied techniques for identification of polymers and additives, while TGA is used to obtain characteristic information about the composition and the thermal behavior of samples. In addition to TG-FTIR, Polymer Chemistry Department is also equipped with high-end advanced instruments including Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC).
